FLying First class

(Because it's our first class day. Get it? Nevermind.)

August 3: Thursday

Classes are Monday through Friday (it's Thursday today); they begin at 10 am and end at one - or earlier. After a volley of introductions, we leapt into the old history of Austria, starting way back with Rome and heading into the 13th century or so. See, back when the Roman Empire was the center of the world, the Danube River was part of its northern border. Back then, the entire city was just a military fort - a bunch of camps on the side of the river. Its fort was called Vindabona, which is excusably close to Vienna.

After class, my roommates and I had some downtime where we wandered around the city, trying new food. One thing I've noticed - and maybe I'm wrong - is that there seems to be a lack of big dogs around Vienna. I've seen corgis and bulldogs and weiner dogs but not once have I yet seen a golden retriever or black lab! Maybe small dogs are just in style. They probably were for the Hapsburgs.

Above: It's really easy to take great pictures and feel like a professional. Everything is just pre-made to be beautiful for me.

Left: My first favorite food is dürüm, the very umlauted and delicious hot dog/burrito wrap sold at nearly every street vendor. There's something extra tasty about watching them taking the meat right off the stick for me. Also, hot dogs are as a rule monstrously sized and delicious.
