back to earth

August 18: Friday

Yesterday was quite the journey: a hike to the top of the world, lunch right under the clouds, and a twisted ankle (not mine, luckily). Last night was another night of friends and conversation and deep thoughts under the stars, something I won't forget anytime soon.

Welp, we took the lift down and got back in the bus. But we didn't quite head back to Vienna yet. Instead, the class headed to the picturesque Austrian town of Laxenberg. Laxenberg appears in the history books as the most rpeferred summer retreat of those opulent Habsburg monarchs.

We took a trip inside Franzensburg Castle, which had turned into a museum for the Habsburg Monarchy. (Sure, you may be asking, don't the Habsburgs have enough museums? Well, if you ruled a chunk of Europe for seven hundred years you'd also need a lot of places to store your stuff, ya know?)

Pictures weren't allowed inside the castle, but I got a good enough shot of the old-school moat-y exterior.

Freaking Disney material.
